JOB DESCRIPTION:

General Description:
Under the supervision of the Hospital Finance Director, perform financial analysis of hospital operations to help management make sound business decisions. This includes preparation of financial projections of proposed or existing product lines, annual operating budgets, to include volumes, revenues and department expenses, capital budgets, working with hospital directors to analyze monthly variances and identify corrective action plans.

Specific Duties:

Manage and continually improve information tools and requirements related to the management of departmental budgetary compliance and facilitating an understanding of these goals to operational managers as well as enhancing operational management financial sophistication.
Oversee daily productivity of operating units.
Create and validate current year YTD volume, gross charges, cost information by department.
Research specific/unusual items on a concurrent basis which can have a significant impact on the Income Statement including volume trends, revenue and expense budget variances.
With the finance director, assist in monthly preparation of the site analysis as to income statement trends / variances.
Responsible for operational and capital budget preparation for Lutheran Hospital, West Pines Behavioral Health and Colorado Lutheran Home.
Use HBOC data to analyze the profitability of specific payers/contracts and specific product lines and make recommendations regarding future direction regarding those results.
Perform as financial support of feasibility studies of proposed new business lines.
When encountered, help highlight and resolve data integrity issues within Meditech and HBOC.

This position is responsible to develop effective hospital/ care site financial projections, including long-range financial plan updates, working collaboratively with and in support of care site finance leadership. It oversees hospital capital approval processes, major capital proposal analytics, and creates depreciation budgets. The financial projections and analysis responsibilities include macro-level payor profitability analyses, service line profitability, physician clinic performance, projected balance sheet key ratios, and other as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Develops and tests complex hospital financial projections models including volume drivers, revenue, expense, capital spending, and cash flow dynamics
Communicates effectively with site financial leadership to establish key financial variables requiring special analysis
Defines optimal financial model structures based on site-specific financial projection issues
Able to conceptualize and create effective data extracts from both the GL and decision support systems to analyze specific cost structure, payor, service line or other issues

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position reports to the SCLHS Senior Manager of Net Revenue and is responsible for preparing the AR reserve calculations and related close analytics, producing various Net Revenue/Reimbursement analysis, and building contract modeling for the billing and decision support systems.

Key Responsibilities:

prepares the A/R reserve calculations, including contractuals, Bad Debt and Charity;
produces the monthly close schedules related to net revenue and net AR;
builds the contract modeling within Epic that applies the contractual adjustments at the time of billing;
builds the contract modeling within the Decision Support system;
assists in preparing for the annual financial audit as it relates to net A/R and net revenue
produces analysis of payor performance:
- Payor profitability, contract modeling, contract compliance and retrospective reviews;
Provides various analysis specific to net revenue performance;
Provides Managed Care contracting support through contract modeling and analyses;
Assists in creating the annual net revenue budgets.

Assists in preparing the calculation and analysis of Net Revenue and AR valuation within a health system that has net revenues of approximately $2.4 billion. The system consists of eleven acute care hospitals, four clinics and related entities covering four states.

Internally, interacts with the department managers, directors and CFOs/VPs Finance and revenue cycle/Finance employees at the system office and Care Sites.
Externally, works with financial systems vendors and financial auditors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required; Advanced business administration degree (MBA) or certified public accountant (CPA) preferred.

Experience:

Three to five years of related experience, including – healthcare reimbursement/net revenue experience.
Experienced with financial analysis and modeling.
Skilled in information systems technology including change control and manipulation of data;
Experience working with complex and sophisticated contracts.
