JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position reports to the SCLHS System Senior Director of HIM and is responsible forthe coordination and management of Health Network (Ambulatory) electronic health record planning and issues. Will lead Health Information Management projects related to ambulatory EHR implementations, including oversight of enterprise content capture/storage, EMPI conversions, e-HIM interfaces, release of information workflows and clinical data conversions. Will work collaboratively with Information Technology Service (IST) professionals, HIM operational staff and Ambulatory clinic staff to ensure optimal ambulatory EHR use and availability of health information. They will also be responsible for evaluating the legal content and data integrity of the ambulatory legal health record.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management, computer science or healthcare administration. Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Health Information Technologist (RHIT) preferred but not required.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years ambulatory clinical operations or management experience. Must include a broad scope of management, systems analysis, project management and extensive interaction at all levels of management and staff. Multi specialist experience preferred.

This position reports to the SCLHS System Training and Coding Compliance Manager and is a part of the HIM team responsible for coding, abstracting medical records, auditing other coders’ work, trains new coders and helping develop coder training.
This position accurately and subjectively analyzes medical records to obtain information necessary for the appropriate sequencing and completes assignment of ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS codes and confirms appropriate DRG as applicable.
This position also abstracts and enters specified data from the medical record to accurately reflect the patient’s disease process, the treatment rendered, and to provide reliable data for reporting, abstracting, billing and patient care purposes.
Must be able to code at multiple facilities within coder’s scope of position (IP vs. OP).
Mentors and trains IP/OP coders. answers coding questions, assists HIM Manager with coding meeting and interviewing applicants.
Designs and develops training plans to meet training needs of coders to achieve high level of accuracy.
Performs coding audits on coders and reports them to the SCLHS Compliance department.
This position requires critical thinking skills, a technical aptitude, self directed work attitude as well as strong communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Required to be an AHIMA accredited Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with a 2 year Associates Degree.

Experience: Musthave 5 years acute care hospital coding experience. Each candidate must successfully pass the entrance exam for the Lead Coder position given prior to hire. Must have the ability to code a minimum of two patient types over multiple sites within SCLHS facilities proficiently.

Position reports to the SCLHS System Senior Director, Health information Management and is responsible for the leadership of the centralized Coding and Coding Compliance department, Clinical Documentation Improvement department and RAC program which performs coding, documentation improvement and RAC mitigation activities for all 11 SCLHS care sites. The Director is over 5 Regional Coding and Documentation Improvement departments, a centralized Coding Training and Compliance department, a centralized Coding Operations and Staffing department and the RAC Coordinator. This position will transition the current individual coding sections into one centralized coding and documentation improvement department for the SCLHS system and will collaborate and support care site needs to ensure highly effective operational and financial outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management with certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Health Information Technologist (RHIT), with a preference for a Master’s degree in a health related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5+ years in healthcare management, including experience in coding management, IT systems transitions, change management, leading teams, and project management.
