Provides professional long term care nursing including Medication Administration, Health Management, Legal and Ethical Issues, Nutrition and Metabolism, Elimination, Activity and Rest, Cognitive Perceptual Issues, Coping and Stress Issues, to a group of assigned residents. Meets the needs of the resident, family and multi-disciplinary team through communication and coordination and supervision of CNAs. Provides education to residents, families and CNAs in each area of major job responsibility. The major job responsibilities for this position include: 1) Medication Administration and Pharmacology: Manage resident's medication needs including indications for use, common side effects, dosing and regulation guidelines for the elderly, recognition of adverse drug reactions and interactions. 2) Health Management: Understands the normals of aging. Assesses the major body systems of the elderly and recognize abnormal symptoms. Understands normal and abnormal lab values. Understands of chronic illness and common illnesses in the elderly. Manage residents with self care deficits. Manage residents who are at risk for injury such as falls and infection. 3) Legal and Ethical Issues: Ensures that resident's rights are promoted and protected. Manages the following issues on behalf of the elderly: Abuse/Neglect, Advance Directives, Competence, Consent, DNR, Power of Attorney, Dignity and Respect, Resident's Rights, Restraints. End of life Care and Comfort Care. Compliance with regulations required by State Board of Nursing, JCAHO, CMS, CDPHE. Adhere to Exempla's Code of Conduct policy and Confidentialty policy. 4) Nutrition and Metabolism: Recognize and manage unanticipated weight loss and weight gain in residents. Manage dysphagia in residents. Management of hydration in elderly residents. Assess oral and dental issues in the elderly. Manage residents with impaired skin integrity or high potential for. Management of residents with Diabetes. 5) Elimination: Care for residents with constipation issues, fecal or urinary incontinence. Establish bowel and bladder retraining. Recognize and treat urinary tract infections in the elderly. Manage residents with Prostatic hypertrophy. 6) Activity and Rest: Management of the care of residents with Respiratory concerns such as pneumonia, asthma, COPD and emphysema. Management and care of residents with altered cardiac output issues such as MI and CHF. Management and care of residents with altered tissue perfusion such as Angina, TIAs, CVA, Hypertension, stasis ulcers. Management and care of residents with impaired physical mobility such as OA, Fractured Hip, Arthritis, MS, Parkinsonism. Management and care of residents with sleep deficits. 7) Cognitive-Perceptual: Management and care of residents with altered thought processes such as Dementia, Delirium, schizophrenia, and paranoia. Management of residents with sensory perceptual alterations such as vision impairment, deafness. Management and care of resident experiencing pain. 8) Coping and Stress: Management and care of residents with disturbances in self concept such as depression and mania. Management and care of residents experiencing ineffective coping such as anxiety, suicide, grief, loss, powerlessness and family dynamics. 9) Technical Skills: competence in venipuncture, PPD, IV( if certified), auscultation, palpation, feeding tubes, established trach care, Point of Care. 10) Supervision/Followership: Manage a team of residents including case management of a group of assigned residents. Direct and supervise CNAs. Provide preceptorship to new employees. Adheres to Department and Exempla policies and procedures including CQI initiatives and Scorecard.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Scheduled to take the NCLEX exam. Current permit to practice nursing in Colorado. Current BCLS Current Colorado State Board of Nursing License

To fulfill this vital role as a Registered Nurse in the PSCU, you'll provide knowledgeable and compassionate care to prepare pre-operative patients for surgery. Your PSCU duties include but are not limited to: obtaining appropriate pre-operative tests and results, determine history and physical requirements, determine educational needs of both patient and immediate family members to ensure positive outcomes, discharge planning, and clipping and preparing the surgical site. The Cardiac Cath Lab of Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center is a state of the art, two lab facility with both cardiac and peripheral capabilities. Services include but are not limited to: diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral catheterization, permanent pacemaker and AICD insertion, intra aortic balloon pump insertion, swan placement, intravascular ultrasound, and fraction flow reserve. Our two labs currently utilize Philips imaging equipment, GE Mac Lab monitoring system, ACIST power injectors, and GE Centricity archival.

The Cardiac Cath Lab of Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center provides patients and physicians with services on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis. Normal hours of operation are from 7am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. After-hours, weekends, and holidays are covered with a single three person call team. We are members of the D2B alliance for quality and are an accredited Cycle 2 Chest Pain Center.

Provides shift leadership and serves as the shift clinical resource. Assistance with the management of staffing resources and patients. Works under the supervision of the Clinical Manager/Director. Assist on the unit to coordinate patient care activities and maintain quality of care in accordance with unit policies and procedures. Supervises and/or provides direct patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

" BSN preferred " Three years nursing experience " Two years leadership experience preferred " Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required " Current license to practice nursing in Colorado " Current BCLS certification " Current NRP, except Peds " Pediatrics current PALs
